Following the overwhelming success of The Autumn Concert for Cudeca last October at The Hotel Kempinski, Estepona, there will be a series of Concerts this Spring with the world famous 75 strong Pontarddulais Welsh Male Voice Choir, with special guest soloists Stephen Lloyd-Morgan, Yazz and Siân Hopkins. These Concerts are sponsored by Ibex Insurance, celebrating their 10th Anniversary year!
The Pontarddulais Male Choir - Côr Meibion Pontarddulais – established in 1960, is the most successful competitive and prestigious male choir in Wales. Having won the main choir prize at the Welsh National Eisteddfod a record 15 times; the latest in 2008, and the International Eisteddfod prize on two occasions. The male choir is also internationally renowned, having appeared in many parts of Europe as well as Canada and the United States. They also performed choral parts in the Pink Floyd film 'The Wall' and recorded with Roger Waters on his hit single 'The Tide is Turning'.
On five occasions the choir has given concerts in its own right at The Royal Albert Hall, London, which ranks among the Choir's UK highlights.
The Choir has been honoured to sing before members of the Royal Family on many occasions. Concerts at St David's Hall, Cardiff and the Royal Albert Hall, London have been undertaken in the presence of the HRH The Prince of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Kent and the late HM The Queen Mother & Diana Princess of Wales.
Welsh Tenor Stephen Lloyd-Morgan has gained widespread popularity and critical acclaim the length of The Costa del Sol, especially for his after-dinner entertainment evenings and more recently his numerous sell-out concert performances, which incorporate a wide ranging repertoire of Musical Theatre & Opera, including `Crossover´ & `Il Divo´ style Classics.
Yazz, a British pop singer, remains best known for her successful 1988 dance track, "The Only Way Is Up". She continued to release singles and returned to the charts in the 90´s. In 1997 she recorded the album Natural Life. Her 2008 album Running Back to You charts her spiritual journey and her new-found Christian faith. Yazz is now based in Spain and is an active member of the Calahonda Baptist Church.
Siân Hopkins is remembered by many for her solo performances as a child soprano on the Welsh Language TV Show of the 1950`s & 60´s Gwlad y Gan - `Land of Song´ - A show that was broadcast across the UK once a month and regularly attracted an audience of some ten million! Siân was given regular solo spots; she became a favourite soloist with her clear sweet soprano voice. Siân has since become a very well known and acclaimed soloist the length of the Costa del Sol, as well as continuing her successful leading roles at The Salon Varietes.
The highlight and finale of The Spring Concerts for Cudeca will be held at the 5* Hotel Don Carlos, Marbella on Wednesday 3rd March at 9pm, hosted by Maurice Boland of Talk Radio Europe, preceded by two Concerts at the Salon Varietes Theatre Fuengirola on 27th & 28th February (NB Sian Hopkins will be the only guest soloist on these 2 dates).
